Blogmas

This is just a quick post to let you all know that during the month of December, I will be doing 'Blogmas'. For anyone that doesn’t know, it is when you TRY to blog a post everyday up until Christmas!  I have a few ideas for some Christmassy themed blogs and some general day-to-day blogs too.

Let me know if you have any blog ideas that you would like me to do!

Let the Christmas Season begin!!!!!!!

8 month update

Jackson has been quite needy this month, which means that I have had even less time to do pretty much anything. HOWEVER, it has been a month of some of the best hugs I have ever got!!!!!!! I am forever reading that ‘they grow up too fast, make the most of it’, and I am so using that as my excuse for a messy house!

This month, unfortunately, has not been a great one as the last two weeks were taken up with colds/flu in the Corbitt house hold, first Jackson and then closely followed by Mummy and Daddy! At the beginning of November, we had another trip up to London, this time as tourists, going to the Sea Life Centre and we also managed to squeeze in a few baby dates.

Milestones

I don’t think that much has changed this month. he was last month giving what I thought were kisses but this month I can confirm that Jackson definitely gives kisses, and lots of them!!!!

He’s getting a lot more confident, doing lots of crawling and is trying to pull himself up. He manages to get up onto his knees with no problem now but we have only had one complete pull up on to his feet. The dogs are no longer safe anywhere!

Routine

8:00am - wake up and bottle
8:30am - breakfast
9:30am - nap for 30/40 mins
11:00am - bottle
12:30pm - lunch
1:00pm - nap 30/40 mins
2:30pm - bottle
4:00pm - sometimes he has another 30 mins sleep (normally cuddling mummy)
5:00pm - dinner
5:45pm - bath and bottle
7:00pm - down for bed

Each time he is having about 7oz of milk in a bottle and one 8oz before bed.

This month we have had a lot of waking in the night! We are slowly getting back to normal though (looking forward to that!).

Clothes and weight

He is in 9-12 month clothes but I am trying to get a few last wears out of his 6-9month trousers (mainly because I need to do a shopping trip for new pairs!).
This month, due to him not being well, he didn't put any weight on so is still 21lb 1oz.

My week

I had a lovely blog post idea for this week. However, my week did not go quite as I had planned. Jackson was sick with a cough and a cold, which meant my time was completely taken up by looking after him. Here’s how it went:

Monday
The week started like any other week with swimming. He had a bit of a sniffle but nothing too bad. We even went to my Mum’s for lunch afterwards.

Tuesday
Chris was off work so we decided to make some Christmas presents with Jackson. He was starting to get his cough but generally wasn’t too bad. That was, until the night came…. By the time we put him to bed he had a really bad cough and wouldn’t sleep. It got to 2:00am and I had not had any sleep, so I made a temporary bed on the floor in Jackson’s room so at least I could get a bit of rest while comforting him.

Wednesday
By the morning, I was a complete zombie. I had to cancel coffee with a friend and spent the whole day in with Jackson, giving him lots of cuddles and trying to get him to eat or drink something. By the evening, he was no better and the thought of leaving him made me too sad, so I cancelled my Pilates class. The start of the night went okay but by 12:30am, he was awake again and crying. Jackson has not eaten during the night since he was about 10 weeks olds, but I gave him a bottle of 6 oz and he drank the whole thing! Unfortunately, this still did not help him sleep so I was back to my make shift bed in his room.

Thursday
Today was his worst day, I felt so helpless. I searched the Internet for a miracle cure but of course there wasn’t any. Again, I cancelled on seeing another friend and spent the day indoors. The only way Jacks would nap would be if he was lying on me, but I have to admit, I loved this as it meant giving him tons of cuddles! That evening I had to cancel a girl’s night out as I just wasn’t able to leave Jackson. Again, the night was taken up by drinking milk, crying and sleeping on my new bed/the floor.

Friday
By now, I was suffering from very little sleep, and the house looked like we had been robbed, but on the up side, Jackson seemed to be on the mend. He would nap in his cot so I managed to get the house 'sort of' into shape. In the evening, my family came over for dinner. Jackson didn’t want to sleep and so, unlike him, he was up until about 10:00pm. When we eventually put him down he had an hour. I gave him some food and tried to put him down again, but he was having none of it. So… I gave in and did the unspeakable. I brought him into our bed and we all managed to have a slightly better night!

Saturday
Jackson woke up at the crack of dawn but on the plus side, he seemed to be a lot better. After breakfast, I put him down for his nap, which is normally 20-30mins but today it lasted 2 hours!!! After he woke up, we went out shopping. In the evening, we had some friends over but were worried about how he would be. He slept the entire evening and didn’t wake until 1:00am, when we gave him his bottle and of course, like normal, he then wouldn’t settle. We didn’t want to bring him into bed again so we made the painful decision to let him cry out. After what felt like 16 hours, which was actually 16minutes, he went to sleep and slept all the way through until 8:30am!!

Sunday
Jackson had woken up in the best mood today. He has made us laugh sooooo many times already and even though he still has a bit of a cough, he seems back to his normal cheeky self.

This week has tested us as parents! Seeing your baby in pain is hard and when you have had so little sleep, everything is 100 times worse. Even though I think that Jackson was being clingy because he was ill, I think that this is also a new phase that I am sure all babies go through.

I hope that next week we have our cheeky Jacks back and manage to do all the fun things we have planned.

Say cheese

Jackson started teething a few months back and by 4 and ½ months, the first tooth arrived!!!! I found this out by Jackson biting down on my finger, ouch!

The second one appeared quite quickly afterwards and then by 6 ½ months he had 6 pearly whites!

Every bath-time we get his little toothbrush out and brush his teeth, which at the moment he does not seem to mind.  Afterwards, we give him the brush to have a play and he has a go himself (he mainly tries to eat it though!).

There are a few things that have helped Jackson and Mummy through this time:

  1. Early on in the teething period, I would give him all the teething toys we had but nothing seemed to help as much as good old fingers. Unlike some of the toys, he was able to bite down easily on them. However, as soon as his teeth had broken through, this had to stop straight away. When the teeth first come through they are sooooooooo sharp.
  2. ‘Sophie la Girafe' – this brand seems to be a craze among parents and of course as a first time mum, I brought one. At first I didn’t understand why it was so popular. Then, as Jackson got older and could really hold toys by himself, it became my go-to teething toy. Jackson loves biting down on the legs.
  3. ‘Teetha’ granules – well these are just amazing!!!!! They are granules that you simply pour into your baby’s mouth. I think you are supposed to rub them on to their gums but Jackson seems to do this by himself. Not so much now, but it used to put him straight to sleep. I will mention that we brought some that were not the ‘Teetha’ brand and, although I am not normally a brand person, I feel they did not work.
  4. Soft toys and muslin cloths – these, like ‘Sophie’, work a treat. Jackson is often seen shoving his muslin cloth or the arm of his teddy into his mouth.
  5. Calpol and Nurofen- these are for when nothing else seems to work, and its just good old medicine to the rescue.
  6. Last, but not least, lots of love and cuddles! Someone once said that ‘the first tooth is like breaking an arm’. I don’t know if that’s true but they defiantly need some cuddles!
Let me know if you have any tips on teething babies.

London baby!!!

Chris had some holiday days left to take off from work and instead of going away, we thought we'd do some family fun days. On Wednesday, we went to London for a tourist day!

Firstly, getting three people and two dogs ready early in the morning is difficult. I have no idea how anyone with any more children gets out of the house before 10am?! Hats off to you. When I have number two, I will have to only make plans after 2pm ;)

We eventually got into London, Waterloo, at 11:30am. The journey was surprisingly easy and painless. However, Jackson was smiling at lady on the train who then said 'she's beautiful'. SHE!!!!! First time Jackson has been mistaken for a girl!

When we got to London, we went to get tickets for the Sea Life Centre and the then went off for lunch with Jackson rocking his Halloween bib. We went to Bar One, as it was right next door and by this point it was 12:30pm and we had a hungry baby!!!

Jackson loved the Sea Life Centre! He was fascinated by all the fish, especially the jelly fish!! I think my favourite was the penguins and Chris' was the giant turtle.

Afterwards, I was a very lucky girl and got to go to Oxford Street to do a bit of shopping!! During pregnancy, I started a small obsession with Lush products. They make an already relaxing bath even more relaxing. Plus, your skin afterwards is always amazing! So one place I had to visit was their Oxford Street store. I Have to admit, it was a bit overwhelming as it is massive with soooooo many products everywhere!!! All of the ladies who worked there were so helpful though and spent a long time explaining some of the products. I ended up leaving with 5 bath bombs, 1 bubble bar and a face mask!

After the all the shopping, we needed a break so went to check out the Forest Bar on the roof of Selfridges, which was so beautiful. Unfortunately, the outside part was full but they had these gorgeous little snugs that were lined with fur-like material and heaters so can be used all year round! We were joined by Jackson's guide parent, Lucy, for a delicious (and rather expensive) cocktail!

We eventually got the train back at 8:30pm, after a bit of dinner, which was way past the little man's bedtime but he didn't seem bothered or tired!!!! It was a long day but was brilliant and we are already looking forward to going in to town at Christmas to do some Christmasy themed activities.
